Asking for Wisdom
2 Chronicles 1:7-12, “That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?

God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possession or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”
Solomon’s request for wisdom wasn’t for himself, it was to do the Lord’s will. He realized and acknowledged the power and sovereignty of God and the frailty and limitation he held. What is your purpose for asking for things? Is it for selfish ambition or motive or is it to carry out God’s will and purpose for your life?
"When you ask God for what’s right He will give you what you desire and more than you deserve."
I believe that this was what made Solomon different from all other kings, is that the power, opportunity and influence didn’t go to his head, it went to his heart. When you ask God for what’s right He will give you what you desire and more than you deserve. This was Solomon’s story. Can God say that about you and me?
We must seek God’s wisdom just as Solomon to do God’s will for as John 15:5 says...without God we can do nothing. Remember in this flesh dwells no good thing.
We don’t “naturally” have it in us to do what’s right we truly need God for that. He will give us the desires of our heart but our heart’s desire must be to do his will in order for Him to fulfill. Ask for wisdom and knowledge to do God’s will and watch Him give
you the desires of your heart and much much more!
